{"id":992,"date":"2017-09-08T09:51:12","date_gmt":"2017-09-08T07:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cd-links.org\/?p=992"},"modified":"2017-09-27T15:39:57","modified_gmt":"2017-09-27T13:39:57","slug":"data-visualization-tools-and-data-management-capacity-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cd-links.org\/?p=992","title":{"rendered":"Data visualization tools and data management: Capacity building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 18 May 2017 at Potsdam, Germany, a dedicated meeting was held on the data visualization tools for Work Package 5 and\u00a0\u00a0a workshop was held on data management\/analysis routines, shared libraries, common standards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Data visualization tools for Work Package 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The data-visualization is a tool to explore the multiple dimensions of the dataset: policy, time and regional dimension. The webpage was coded in HTML\/CSS and the data-visualization using d3.js. Data is embedded in a csv file. A demonstration was given of the progress made on the tool, as shown in the figure below, and a temporary website address was shared with the group so that the tool can be reviewed by all members of the CD-LINKS consortium.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cd-links.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/data-visualiz.-tool.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-994 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cd-links.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/data-visualiz.-tool-300x210.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"335\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cd-links.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/data-visualiz.-tool-300x210.png 300w, https:\/\/www.cd-links.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/data-visualiz.-tool-768x538.png 768w, https:\/\/www.cd-links.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/data-visualiz.-tool-500x351.png 500w, https:\/\/www.cd-links.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/data-visualiz.-tool.png 853w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 335px) 100vw, 335px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, presentations were given by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/faculty.unibocconi.eu\/valentinabosetti\/\">Valentina Bosetti<\/a>: Brief introduction to the agenda, recap of WP 5 discussions during CD-LINKS workshop<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pik-potsdam.de\/members\/kriegler\/index_html\">Elmar Kriegler<\/a>: Overview of SENSES project, introduction of the term &#8216;Climate Change Scenario Services&#8217;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/idl.fh-potsdam.de\/people\/prof-boris-muller\/\">Boris M\u00fcller <\/a>(FH Potsdam): Examples of data visualization, applications in the context of climate change<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iiasa.ac.at\/web\/home\/research\/researchPrograms\/Energy\/Daniel_Huppmann.html\">Daniel Huppmann<\/a>: Overview of visualization hierarchy (infographics \/ scenario portal \/ scenario data explorer), presentation on new web database infrastructure at IIASA (ix Modeling Platform, ixmp)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It was agreed during the meeting that a common data repository (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalchange.umd.edu\/iamc\/\">Integrated Assessment Modeling Consortium<\/a> (IAMC) Annual Release, IAMC Scenario Portal) with regular updates might be a useful avenue to present the &#8216;state-of-the-art&#8217; and provide an entry point to the most up-to-date results from the IAM community.\u00a0As a result of this meeting, a draft proposal will be prepared and submitted to the IAMC Steering Committee for further discussion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop for data management\/analysis routines, shared libraries and common standards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A workshop was also held on data management\/analysis routines, shared libraries and common standards.
