logo_с_hse_cmyk_eThe Higher School of Economics (HSE) was founded on November 27, 1992, by ordinance of the Government of the Russian Federation. In October 2009, the Higher School of Economics obtained the status of a National Research University. In 2013, the HSE was named a winner in a competition for government support aimed at propelling Russia’s leading high educational institutions into the world’s top 100 universities.

The core business of HSE is higher education and research. HSE became a leader in economics education in Russia since then. In 2013, 18323 students were enrolled in over 600 HSE programmes. HSE is a founder of 21 scientific journals and owner of a publishing house.

HSE has all office facilities, equipment, administration and managerial capacities required for implementing high quality research. HSE office is located in the center of Moscow, fully equipped with the computers, communication and Internet. Over 100 research divisions operate in HSE. The organization is financially sustainable. HSE’s annual revenue exceeds $285 mln.

HSE has regional branches and local partners that can provide technical support and facilitate the research activities. Such support may include necessary arrangements with the relevant local experts, independent reviewers, governmental officials and stakeholders. Many of the partners represent the leading sustainable development and environmental organizations, think tanks, academia.

The managerial capabilities of HSE are justified by successful implementation of over 2000 international and domestic research projects in the last 20 years. HSE has over 20 years of experience in sustainable development and environmental protection studies in Russia. Since 1997 HSE’s Center for Environmental and Natural Resource Economics works on climate change, biodiversity, land, forestry, international waters, Arctic, chemical pollution, health risks, energy efficiency, etc. We cooperate with WB, OECD, IEA, EU, UNFCCC, US EPA, etc.

HSE provides analytical support to the national and regional authorities, academia, businesses, NGOs on relevant environmental issues via consultancy, publications, capacity building, domestic and international networking, implementation of demonstration projects in Russia.
